Why Skirts?
I wear skirts because they are comfortable, modest, and easier to come by. I sometimes get stares and some people even ask questions. Wearing skirts is my own personal conviction. Just because I wear skirts, doesn't mean I am going to make everyone else wear them. Everyone is entitled to there own opinion on what is modest and what isn't. I feel wearing pants is immodest, and I feel wearing skirts below the knee or to the ankle is how a female should dress. I believe no cleavage or belly should be visible. Some may look at me and how I choose to serve Christ as too extreme and way too legalistic. I feel it's not. I used to go to an apostolic Church and wear skirts and things like that. Then I moved and left the Church and then, I dressed in tight clothing, short skirts, lots of goddy jewelry, gobs of makeup and buckets of perfume (not to mention I almost always wore heels) I was selling myself... and didn't even know it. I feel now that I am a a healthy medium. I have been on both sides. (the legalistic) and the (not so legalistic side lol). I have found the healthy medium. A lot of people say that men (sadly even women) will still look at you with lust and things even if you covered yourself from head to toe. I agree with the people that say that. However...why help them along? Why be that carrot in front of the bunny's eyes...stringing them along...silently leading them on like that? Why help them fall, and become tempted? Wearing skirts I feel has helped men control themselves. I can now have a conversation with someone of the opposite gender without there eyes glued to every part of me. I now actually get an educated response, when communicating. It is easier to communicate when making eye contact. I feel I am more respected by the instead of treated like a piece of meat. I truly feel for the men out there. Ladies, God gave us women a silent power you may not be aware of. it's called beauty! Men cannot resist the beauty of a woman. So...lets' help them out by covering up the beauty that God has given us, rather than flaunting off the beauty. Let's guard our hearts ladies. ladies. And men, protect yourselves and guard your hearts too! Modesty isn't just for the ladies. Let's protect ourselves, and our future Husbands (or wives), (for those who are still unmarried)...even for those of you who are married...guard your heart, and your body. respect others. Carry yourself like the gem you are. Carry yourself with respect, and dignity. You are beautiful. Believe that.
Some people say, "You don't have to dress modestly and act modestly and what not to be a modest person. God looks at the heart, I can have green hair, tattoos, high heels, (or not), lot's of flashy accessories (including piercings), and still be modest -because God looks at the heart."
You know what, that's true! However...if there's a godly change going on, on the inside...there should be a godly change on the outside as a result of the inwardly change... For whatever goes in, is gonna' come out.
Proverbs 4:23 says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."
Example: Ladies: Are you partying after Church or school with your "friends"? Do you like to go clubbing? What are you watching on TV? Is it shows like, "Teen Mom", "GLEE", The Secret Life Of An American Teenager" MTv" "Pretty Little Liars" Sister Wives"? Are you "testing the waters" and dating and breaking up, dating and breaking Do you tend to flock towards the "Loud and popular" crowd, the wrong crowd at school, college wherever? Do you go out to the movies with your girls and guy friends to go watch a movie...or? When you go shopping do you look for the tightest pair of clothes you can get into?
Guys: Are you working out just to get the ladies attention? Are you acting out and showing off -risking your life just to get a girl to notice you? Are you looking at certain sexual images to get a quick fix? What are you watching on TV? What are you reading/listening to? Do you go to the club? Do you drink? Do you spend lot's of your time with gang members, or the trouble-makers of the town m
(the wrong crowd)? Do you smoke a joint with your "buddies" every now and again? Do you get out of the house just to go look for some trouble to get into? Do you smother yourself with cologne to "attract the ladies".
So, if your putting all that in your heart and/or stuff like that...hmm... what do you think will come pouring out of that like a fountain (wellspring), into your life? What is most commonly the result?
*NOTE: You can be saved (a Christian who has genuinely accepted Jesus in there heart and wants to change)...and still take part in some of these things. Of course not all of them obviously because you have Jesus in your heart, and Jesus wouldn't allow you to do all that without conviction like those who do without Christ. You'd most definitely have heavy guilt hanging over you. Those who don't have Christ don't have that heavy guilt -which is why they do what they do unashamedly. If you say you are a Christian and yet still do all of these things, it's not my place to judge. I would suggest however, that you check your heart and your motives. Look back on the time when you first got saved and accepted Jesus into your heart, I would challenge you to look back on the day you became a Christian...when you decided to make that change, was it a genuine one? Did you understand what was going on? Did your mind say, "Yes" to God, Yes I want to follow you and change my life around. And at the same time did your heart say- "No God, I can't do this but, I will...even though I don't really understand it". It's vital that when you get saved, you understand why you are getting saved, what you are getting saved from, where you are being saved from (Hell), where your gonna' spend eternity once your truly saved (Heaven), who Jesus is, what he did on the cross for you, admitting that you are a sinner in need of a savior, etc...yes, it is a simple prayer but -it has HUGE meaning. LIFE CHANGING meaning and purpose. So, I would encourage you to go talk to the Pastor or person who prayed that prayer of Salvation with you (or talk to a genuine sold-out-for God Pastor about Salvation), and share with Him your experience, and any questions you may have about the whole thing. It is VITAL. Who knows, you may find that you never really sincerely gave your life to God. Maybe you really do need to re-dedicate your life to God. Repent, ask for forgiveness and turn to Him for real this time. Please, don't misunderstand me. If you were truly sincere about about becoming a Christian when you got saved, you are saved! If you took it seriously and understood the basics of Salvation...you are indeed saved! You shouldn't have constant doubts about whether or not you are saved. And you will always be saved. Once saved always saved! So don't worry -you cannot lose your Salvation. (That doesn't give us the right as Christians to go off and sin and party and do whatever we want). We should never take advantage of our Salvation like that. We should strive our very hardest with the help of the Holy Spirit to live our lives holy, pleasing and acceptable to God. If you have any questions about Salvation feel free to email: changeofheartdotcom@gmail.com That is an email to another website of ours. My Husband would be helping me answer your questions- He is an Ordained Southern Baptist minister, He will tell you all you need to know! And (He's my Hubby)! We'd love to hear from you! We'd love to help! No matter what religion, if you have any questions about Christianity and Salvation let us know!
The Result (To what I mentioned above the green paragraph):
Well, if it's not bad what would that make all that? Good? Sorry my friend, you are mistaking.
Let's do some math:
GOOD - GOD = 0
"Good minus God, equals zero".
You can't have GOOD without GOD, for nothing is GOOD without GOD, for GOD is GOOD, and GOOD is GOD.
Think on it.
"The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks."
-Garbage in, garbage out! Would you go over to a trash can, and eat some garbage? Does that sound tasty to you? (Some of you may sarcastically or jokingly say, "Yeah...it's amazing". Well, we all know having a 6 month old moldy maggot-filled burger and fries isn't gonna' make our taste buds happy. You put garbage in, your gonna' get garbage out.
You wouldn't put garbage in your mouth, so don't put it in your mind.
Put the good in and the good comes out
The result?
Psalm 97:11 "Light is shed upon the righteous and joy on the upright in heart."
Hebrews 12:14 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
This should be the prayer of all Christians:
Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
In closing:
This is what I hear a lot of people say about living a modest lifestyle: "That is just religious". God doesn't want religion. He wants a real relationship with Him. I feel I do I have that real relationship with Him. Again, people may look at me and disagree. Everyone is entitled to there own opinion. I don't live to please people, I live to please my Father God and be obedient to the individual call that He has placed on my life. The paths of life may look similar...but every foot print is

What about you? Do you wear modest clothing? Skirts or pants?
8 comments:
Pants and jeans for me, sorry. : ) But...good for you! I feel I'm very modest the way I dress, but I'm proud of you for following your convictions on what modesty is for you, and you presented it very well! Btw, I didn't know you had started a new blog...I still "follow" the other one and wondered why you hadn't written anything on it. I'll switch. : ) Love ya!
Thank you for your comment Debbie!
Everyone's opinion on whats modest(whether that be in words, actions, or thoughts, which I believe we should practice modesty in all three) isn't always going to be the same. What may be modest to one, may not be modest to the other. To each there own! It's not my place to judge, I will leave that up to the Lord. Only He knows the hearts and motives of His people. This is the same blog, it has just gone under major reconstruction! So I consider it brand new. (:

I just found your blog and I am loving reading it! I am so enthralled by hearing your words, and listening to you speak about your struggles with fertility is something I am very familiar with through close family and friends. I am essentially the fertility counselor within my group! I chart everyone's cycles and help them figure things out.. and have been there for the heartaches and the joyful moments too. I really like your blog!
But I have to confess something! I am totally getting a headache and having the hardest time reading it! The changes in font size and the bolded letters in the big font and then the small font back and forth is SUPER painful and really hard to read. I know it's for emphasis and on the one hand it makes it almost like poetry, but it's really, really difficult to read and I have to keep stopping and skim instead but I don't want to skim, I want to read it, but... :(
Thank you for your comment Emily!
Sorry that you had difficulty reading. Thank you for making me aware of this! Future posts will be much easier to read! : )
God Bless you Emily, and thank you for your kindness.

I have prayed deeply and hard about this subject about switching from jean pants to long skirts myself. I am also finding myself dressing more modest when it comes to tops and shirts. It is true that some people will think nasty thoughts about you even if you are being modest but you don't want them to get anymore nasty ideas about the way you dress as well. Modesty is a way of showing respect to yourself and The Lord.
Thank you for your comment Libby!
I agree with you 100% God Bless you as you continue to follow his leading.

I'm a skirt only gal, too and appreciate your post! Often we can start feeling like we are the only ones in the world that have any conviction in dress standards, especially after a trip to the mall!
Gina
Thank you again for your comments Gina!
I like how you put it lol, it's so true! Sometimes I do feel very alone in my convictions, I used to go to the mall but, it has just gotten so bad that I don't go anymore, I would much rather go to a flea market or a yard sale or a thrift store! I don't have many friends who share the same convictions as I do. It can be hard sometimes because, I can feel so left out. However, my Husband's friend has a girlfriend who shares the same conviction about modesty as I, and so I find that such a blessing! And she is very close in age which makes that even more of a blessing.
Walk with Jesus!
